means gibberish. don't pay attention to the lyrics, the words mean nothing and that's the point. get lost in the sound, and the sensuality of the sound. that's where the meaning lies.

It's funny how everyone concedes that Liz's lyrics are often not even able to be transcribed, and yet we all have this intense need to try and put her sounds into words we can string together logically, to come up with lyrics that "make sense" to us. I'm guilty of this myself, even though I love the Twins more than life itself and I know that Liz's lyrics are meant to be felt rather than studied.

im sure liz had the meaning of these lyrics all worked out in her head, however she may have been taking heavy drugs at the time. to say that the lyrics are meant to be felt and not studied is a good way to look at it, but it doesn't mean you can't recieve some sort of communication based on the actual words she says in conjunction with the way they sound. she is so metaphorical that it's hard to remember that shes not talking about strictly one thing. the subject matter is very fragmented. but if you neglect the words and only listen to their sound, you aren't getting your head around the whole picture of what this song is trying to say to you (or to the artist themselves). Liz obviously has some very complex emotions and musings going into these lyrics, and while it is pointless and endless to study them, instead paying attention to them and knowing what they are so they can still offer another level of surreality to the song is very worthwhile.
to annazoff- how f*cking dare you compare liz fraser to ENYA. really, how dare you. you don't even make sense! Indie? when were CT indie? your basically just admitting that you listen to sh*tty music like that peice of sh*t fake Enya, who is still capitalizing off of the niche she dug out in the music market for ignorant soccer moms and their husbands who want to put something on for the car ride that can satisfy both of their terrible tastes.
anyways... Long live Cocteau Twins

I don't think these lyrics are correct so it's hard to tell by looking at these but from the lyrics i know i think it's about having to suppress opinions for not offending anyone.

Yeh Liz probably wasn't on drugs. I hate that drugs and creative words have to be on a parallel. I understand what Weslobombs is trying to say but that's seriously not the point that Liz is trying to make with her lyrics. She puts words to music and still creates an amazing song, even if the lyrics don't mean anything. She uses words as a FACT, that they exist, and you don't necessarily need to make sense of them in order to use them with music.
and yeh, this is....NOT Enya. thanks.

It's definitely 'Tiger's maw' rather than 'Tiger's masque'...

I see the song representing being dragged through something, like a life and having to hide your heart or holding onto some secret. But there's a feeling of falling or great sadness. I think the song sounds like it knows something it can't say in words and I'm okay with that. If it weren't for the way she sings it it would be gibberish but she makes sublime poetry out of it. Still being cried and laughed at is the saddest line too, it's how we think people are thinking about us and judging us but they often aren't, or even if they are it doesn't matter it's just that horrible feeling. I really love the song and glad it has it's fans, I gotta say I was disappointed with other tracks on the album and was hoping it was the genre defining album people talked it up to be. I'm still more a It'll End In Tears guy

Didn't think lyrics actually existed, wow. Now I know why its maybe better left without the lyrics, who knows what these things mean. Absolutely incredible music though, just the way its supposed to be enjoyed, without singing along to.

Ave Grave Thee More Shallows So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation. ive lost time in this stupid life of mine Camacazi Helmets 1 Thanks for Letting me Know Eyes of Verotika 1 True/False We Yes You Know what's love got to do with it (remix) Warren G 1Rate These Lyrics
