I used this recipe as a basis for a wonderful sauce. Here are some things to consider:l. Use wine instead of water for cooking the shrimp shells to make the broth.2. Use shallots instead of onions and add two cloves of chopped galic to the mix when sautéing.3. Capers added to the sauce were great.

I sometimes skip the pasta and have this as a low carb meal and make an extra vegetable.

Maybe capers would add a bit of flavor?

Easy to make, and very flavorful. I added some garlic and was pleased with the result. It was even better the day after, when I served it w/ short grained rice. I would definitely make this again.

Use shallots instead of onions, add a little bit more tomato. Add a little bit more Cayennes
Me
- swap shallots for onion and add minced garlic in with the shallots and carrots after 5 min - use a half bottle of wine instead of water- add in chopped shrimp after tomato cools down and before shrimp stock

This recipe is a very good start. Some suggestions: season the shrimp with some olive oil, minced garlic or garlic powder, oregano, salt and white pepper, then refrigerate the shrimp until needed. Add a large pinch of cayenne to the shrimp broth to make it spicier. I added two cloves of minced garlic after sautéing the onions and carrots. Also added Thai basil and capers when I added the tomatoes.

We enjoyed this. Nice flavor. Added garlic and used basil because I didn’t have marjoram. I also added frozen peas at the end with the shrimp. Served over medium shells, but rice would be nice too.

Use vermouth to cook the shrimp shells. Add garlic to the sauce. Both will greatly enhance the flavor.

I cook daily and usually love Mark Bitman's recipes. That said, this recipe is a waste of shrimp; tasteless and boring. I would not waste my time or money on this recipe.

I had no fresh marjoram or oregano. However, earlier in the week I had bought fresh basil. After it was starting to show its age, I saved it by grinding the good basil leaves with a bit of salt and olive oil, creating a basil paste. So after I made this shrimp and pasta dish, I turned off the heat and stirred in some of the basil paste. It was fantastic; that basil paste really made the dish.

Note to self: use shallots instead of onions, add a bit more cayenne, add a few extra tomatoes used basil, that was good.

Cooking partner accidentally bought shelled shrimp with only tail on. We forged ahead with the recipe as otherwise directed. BUT cooked it, as suggested here, with wine (we also added some chicken broth), shallots and garlic. Tossed with fresh fettuccine and had a great dinner! The fresh marjoram really added dimension and depth to this shrimp dish. Can’t wait to make this again, with the shrimp shells.

Delicious! I had a 2lb bag of shrimp thawed and was looking for a new idea for it. This fit the bill nicely and made for a great Friday night dinner. I didn’t have the tomatoes on hand so I used a can of petite diced tomatoes instead, juices and all. I think it made for a robust flavor. I may have made more shell broth than needed so I want to try again with less water. Also added garlic as many suggested. Served with penne pasta.

Added the garlic as recommended. Carrots made it surprisingly sweet. Store out of plum tomatoes so substituted Kumato Tomatoes which were great. Shrimp tasted a bit of iodine? (Whole Foods). Didn't rinse before shelling, etc. Should I have?

Easy but delicious pasta. I did add garlic as recommended, and more carrot. I also added some diced roasted tomatoes without juice, as my plum tomatoes were not very fresh.

I made this last night and it was delicious. Followed other posters advice to swipe water with white wine for boiling shells and used shallot and garlic in place of onion. I swapped half of oil for butter, added dried oregano and fresh basil at the end. Made homemade rigatoni and topped with crushed red pepper. Definitely a keeper

With the addition of the suggestions of other cooks - wine, garlic, and shallots, this was an excellent meal. Served over Whole Foods Garlic and Olive Oil couscous. Tasty!

This was easy and delicious. I made it during COVID. Didn't have enough tomatoes on hand so I added some salsa, which gave it a nice kick.
